Full Support for Android Users — RedotPay × Google Pay
We previously introduced the Apple Pay integration for iPhone users, but Android smartphone users can rest assured as well. The RedotPay card is fully compatible with Google Pay (which is currently being standardized under the name Google Wallet).
On this page, we’ll guide you through the steps to add the RedotPay card to Google Wallet, how to use it for payments, and troubleshooting tips—all with the same level of enthusiasm as we provided for Apple Pay. Even on an Android smartphone, you can enjoy a smart, wallet-free payment experience right away.
Getting Started
To use the RedotPay card with Google Wallet, you’ll need to complete the following preparations.
- Compatible Devices: Android smartphones with NFC (Android 9 or later recommended)
- Google Wallet app: Installed for free from Google Play
- Device Screen Lock Settings: PIN, pattern, fingerprint, or face recognition must be enabled
- Google Account region settings: Must be associated with a country where Google Wallet is available
- RedotPay app: KYC must be complete, and the card must have been issued
Depending on the Android device model, the NFC feature may be turned off by default. Please verify that it is turned ON by going to “Settings → Connected Devices → Connection Settings → NFC.”
Registration Procedure — End-to-End via the RedotPay App
The quickest way to register with Google Wallet is through the RedotPay app.
- Open the RedotPay app and tap the “Card” tab in the bottom menu
- Select a registered card, then tap the “Add to Google Wallet” button at the top or bottom of the screen
- Google Wallet will launch, displaying a preview of the card and the Terms of Service
- Tap “Agree”
- Enter the 6-digit verification code sent via SMS or email
- The card will be added to Google Wallet within a few seconds to a few minutes
After adding the card, you can set the RedotPay card as your “Default Payment” in Google Wallet’s “Card Settings.” This will ensure that the RedotPay card is automatically selected at checkout.
How to Use It — Just Hold Your Phone Near the Reader
With NFC turned on, simply hold your smartphone near the reader to complete the payment.
You may be prompted to provide security authentication (PIN, fingerprint, or face recognition) on the lock screen beforehand. While you can configure the settings to allow small transactions (e.g., under 1,000 yen) without authentication, we recommend keeping authentication enabled for security reasons.
The payment amount is automatically converted from the crypto assets balance in the RedotPay wallet and reflected in your balance in real time. You can view transaction details in both the app and Google Wallet.
Common Errors and Solutions
Unable to Add a Card
- NFC is disabled on your device: Settings → Connected Devices → Connection Settings → Turn NFC ON
- Not logged in to your Google Account: Check that Google Wallet is logged in with the correct account
- Outdated Google Wallet version: Update the Wallet app to the latest version on Google Play
- Google Account region settings: Check that your Google Account is set to a country where Google Wallet is available
Error during payment
- Merchant does not support contactless payments: Use a physical card or another payment method
- Insufficient balance: RedotPay The funds will appear in your wallet within a few tens of seconds after you add them
- NFC antenna is misaligned with the reader: Gently move your phone to adjust the reading position
- Temporary device error: Restarting the device often resolves the issue
Authentication code not received
- For SMS: Check your spam folder and SMS filters
- For email: Check your spam folder and the "Promotions" tab
- If you still cannot receive the code, update the phone number or email address registered in the RedotPay app
Security — Ensuring Safety Through Tokenization
Card numbers registered in Google Wallet are replaced with device-specific tokens, so merchants never receive the actual card numbers. Just like Apple Pay, security is ensured through tokenization.
Even if you lose your smartphone, you can minimize the damage by remotely locking the device or erasing data using Find My Device.
Be sure to set up two-step verification for your Google Account. It is recommended to use not only SMS but also Google Authenticator or a physical security key (such as the Titan Security Key) in combination. Please understand that the security of your Google Account underpins the overall security of Google Wallet.
Differences from Apple Pay
Here’s my impression after actually comparing the two.
- Payment speed: Virtually the same. Completes in 0.5–1 second
- Authentication effort: I get the impression that Android requires unlocking slightly more often
- Supported Merchants: Any merchant worldwide that accepts Visa Contactless payments, so there is no difference from Apple Pay
- Ease of setup: Both take 3–5 minutes to complete
Whether an Android user switches to an iPhone or an iPhone user switches to Android, the user experience with RedotPay remains virtually the same. This is a major source of peace of mind.
Using Multiple Devices
Users who own multiple devices—such as those who use both an iPhone and an Android tablet—can register the same RedotPay card to both Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Since a separate token is issued for each device, losing one device will not affect the other. In fact, registering the card on multiple devices is recommended as a safety net, since it allows you to immediately use a backup payment method if your main smartphone malfunctions.
Practical Examples While Traveling
The number of merchants accepting NFC contactless payments is growing rapidly worldwide. In Europe, North America, and East Asia in particular, many convenience stores, supermarkets, restaurants, and taxis already support this payment method. Major locations of Japanese convenience store chains (Seven-Eleven, Lawson, FamilyMart, and others) now also accept Visa contactless payments.
When I visited Seoul in January 2026, I installed RedotPay on my Android smartphone and used Google Wallet for almost all my payments—except for the subway. Taxis, cafes, convenience stores, souvenir shops—it was a smart trip that required no currency exchange and no cash.
Summary — A Strong Ally for Android Users
The combination of Google Pay and RedotPay is one of the best solutions for everyday payments for Android users. When used alongside a physical card, you can handle almost every situation—except for ATM withdrawals—using just your smartphone.
There’s absolutely no disadvantage to using Android. The support system for RedotPay is completely equivalent on both iOS and Android, and there are virtually no differences in functionality. Please feel free to use it with confidence.
Once you’ve finished setting it up, be sure to visit a nearby convenience store, tell the clerk “I’d like to pay by tap,” and hold your smartphone up to the terminal. We’d love for you to experience that smooth transaction firsthand.
