The reassurance of having a physical card on hand
During the period when I was using only virtual cards, there were several moments when I found myself thinking, “I really do want a physical card after all.”When my smartphone battery died, when I walked into a store that didn’t accept Apple Pay, or when I needed cash at an ATM—in moments like these, just having a single physical card in my wallet makes a world of difference in terms of peace of mind.
On this page, I’ll share my personal experience in detail, covering everything from applying for a physical card to its arrival, activation, and actual use.
The Role of the Physical Card
The RedotPay physical card is “that extra card” for users who want to take full advantage of ATM withdrawals, PIN payments, and in-person transactions. It serves to complement situations where virtual cards fall short.
The card itself is a Visa-branded card and can be used at Visa merchants and ATMs worldwide. In addition to being a physical plastic card, it is equipped with an IC chip and NFC (contactless payment) functionality.
When Do You Need a Physical Card?
Here are some specific situations where I felt, “I’m glad I had a physical card.”
- When withdrawing local currency from an ATM while traveling abroad
- When you want to go shopping without your smartphone, it’s reassuring to have one in your wallet
- In places where many in-person transactions require PIN authentication (gas stations, certain stores)
- As a backup payment method when your smartphone battery dies
- Merchants that do not support Apple Pay/Google Pay
- When a physical card is required for hotel “pre-authorization”
If you mainly use online payments and subscriptions, a virtual card is sufficient, but if you encounter any of the above situations even a few times a month, it’s worth getting a physical card.
Application Procedure
- RedotPay Select “Apply Physical Card” in the “Card” section of the app
- Enter your shipping address (in English). Please enter Japanese addresses in English as well
- Pay the issuance fee (approx. 100 USDT) from your wallet balance
- After your application is confirmed, you can track the manufacturing and shipping status in the app
Example of an English address:
1-2-3 Shibuya, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 150-0002, Japan
Enter the room number, building name, city, state/prefecture, ZIP code, and country in that order. If there is a building name, enter it in English before the room number.
Shipping and Delivery Times
Shipping is via International Registered Mail or courier service, and delivery times vary depending on the destination country. Estimated delivery times for Japan are as follows:
- From order placement to shipment: 1–2 weeks
- From shipment to arrival: 1–2 weeks
- Total: Approximately 2–4 weeks
During peak seasons or due to postal conditions, delivery may be delayed by an additional 1–2 weeks. If you plan to travel abroad or move, it is recommended that you complete your application at least 1.5 months in advance for peace of mind.
When I applied in October 2025, my card arrived 19 days later. Since tracking information in the app is limited, there may be times when you worry that it might not arrive, but you should expect it to arrive within about a month, so please be patient.
Important Notes Upon Receipt
Identity Verification
You may be asked to present identification when picking up your card.
Handling Delivery Notices
If the card is returned because the recipient was not home, arrange for redelivery as soon as possible. You can also have it held at a post office, so please choose the method that ensures you’ll receive it.
Card Structure
The plastic card is equipped with a magnetic strip, an IC chip, and NFC. Immediately after receiving the card, be sure to perform the "Activate" operation in the app.
Activation and PIN Setup
Once you receive the card, complete the following steps in the app.
- Card Recognition (Enter the last 4 digits or the full number)
- Confirm receipt
- Set a 4-digit PIN. This will be used for ATM and PIN-based payments
Once these steps are complete, your card will be ready to use immediately.
PIN Security
Set your PIN according to the following rules.
- Avoid 4-digit sequences or repeated numbers (e.g., 1234, 1111)
- Avoid PINs that can be guessed based on personal information, such as your birthday or the last four digits of your phone number
- If you write it down on paper, do not keep it in the same place as your card
- The card will be temporarily locked after 5 consecutive incorrect PIN entries
What to Do If Your Card Is Lost or Stolen
If your card is lost or stolen, take the following steps immediately.
- Execute "Freeze" via the app → Immediately stop unauthorized use
- File a report of loss or theft with the local police station (if overseas, file with the local police; it is recommended to also file a report in Japan later)
- Initiate the reissuance process via the app (a new card with a new number will be mailed to you)
- If any unauthorized transactions occur while the card is frozen, report them via the app’s support chat
Since the freeze function takes effect instantly, if you use your smartphone the moment you lose your wallet, you can minimize damage to almost zero. Even if you lose your physical card, simply opening the app and selecting "Freeze" without panicking is a peace of mind unique to the digital age.
Tips for Use
Checks Before Traveling Abroad
- Check if local ATMs display the Visa or Plus logos that your card supports
- Set your destination country as a "Travel Notification" in the app (not required, but helps prevent false positives in fraud detection)
- Set your spending limit to a level that meets your needs
Domestic Use
- Enjoy convenient use at Visa Contactless-enabled locations such as convenience stores, supermarkets, and drugstores
- You may be required to enter your PIN at terminals equipped with IC chip readers
Value as a backup
It serves as a "safety net" in case you lose your smartphone, your phone runs out of battery, or your Wi-Fi/data connection is unstable. Just having one in your wallet greatly alleviates anxiety while traveling.
Card Design and Quality
When I actually held the physical card in my hands, I was impressed by its sturdier construction than I had imagined. The surface is made of matte plastic, with the RedotPay logo printed in red. The chip is gold, and the magnetic strip is located on the back.
The card number is printed on the back rather than the front, adhering to the latest design standards to prevent skimming and peeping. Even for everyday use, I never feel embarrassed about the design.
Using both physical and virtual cards is the best approach
Here’s how I use it.
- Virtual Card: Subscriptions to overseas SaaS services, overseas e-commerce, daily online payments, and contactless payments via Apple Pay
- Physical Card: ATM withdrawals while traveling abroad, payments at stores that don’t support Apple Pay, and as a backup when my phone runs out of battery
This division of roles covers nearly every payment scenario. If you view the total issuance fee of 110 USDT (equivalent to approximately 16,000 yen) as an “initial investment to maximize payment options,” it’s well worth the cost.
Summary — The physical card is “an extra layer of peace of mind”
A physical card is the ideal choice for users who need to make “ATM withdrawals” or “in-person PIN payments.” Since delivery takes time, if you’re planning to travel abroad or move, be sure to apply well in advance. Once issued, there’s no annual fee, so costs won’t add up even if you keep it long-term.
Using both a virtual card and a physical card—a “two-card strategy”—is the most flexible way to use RedotPay. By setting up a system where you can access your stablecoin balance via both your smartphone and a physical card, your payment options will expand significantly.
